STABLE POWER TO INDUSTRIES KEY TO ECONOMIC GROWTH – DEPUTY ENERGY MINISTER.
The Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah, has underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring a stable and sustainable power supply for industries as a key driver of economic growth and job creation.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for a 200-megawatt (MWp) solar farm at the Dawa Industrial Enclave on behalf of the Minister, Hon. Gyan-Mensah said the integration of renewable energy into an industrial zone demonstrates how green energy can accelerate industrial and economic development.
He said that under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, the Ministry has prioritized renewable energy as a central pillar of Ghana’s energy strategy.
“This project reflects our commitment to diversify Ghana’s energy mix, reduce carbon emissions, ensure universal access to clean and affordable power, and encourage private sector participation in the energy transition,” he noted.
The Deputy Minister explained that the solar project will supply affordable and reliable electricity to industries within the enclave, ease pressure on the national grid, and contribute to Ghana’s goal of achieving at least 10 percent renewable energy in the national mix in the medium term.
The project will start with a 200MWp installation, with plans to expand to over 1,000MWp. The first 100MWp is expected to be operational by December 2026, with full completion within nine months thereafter.
Upon completion, the first phase will generate electricity equivalent to 2.5% of Ghana’s current demand, while the full capacity will supply over 10%, sufficient to power developments within the Dawa Industrial Zone and Dawa City.
