Energy Minister Launches Construction of 1MW Solar Plant at Dawhenya

The government has taken a significant step toward strengthening Ghana’s Water-Energy-Food Nexus initiative with the launch of a 1MW integrated solar plant for the Dawhenya Irrigation Scheme. The project, officially commissioned last Friday by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, marks a major milestone in efforts to promote the productive use of solar energy in key sectors, particularly agriculture.

The new solar facility is expected to directly power irrigation systems in the Dawhenya enclave, boosting food production while enhancing both energy and food security. It also forms part of the broader national agenda to advance sustainable agricultural practices through clean, reliable energy solutions.

At the event, the Minister outlined government’s wider plan to deploy solar-powered irrigation pumps across the country, reinforcing its commitment to renewable energy adoption and long-term agricultural resilience.

He assured traditional authorities and project implementers of full support to address any challenges that may arise, emphasising government’s determination to ensure the successful delivery of the project.
