Energy Minister Pays Working Visit to ECG.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor has paid an official working visit to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), reaffirming government’s support for the utility provider while calling for strengthened accountability within the organisation.
The visit, undertaken as part of the Minister’s supervisory mandate over energy-sector agencies, focused on engaging staff, assessing ongoing reforms, and addressing operational challenges facing ECG.
He commended the management team, led by Managing Director Ing. Julius Kpekpena, for significant progress in procurement, maintenance, revenue mobilisation, and overall corporate direction. Notably, the Minister highlighted the review of 347 legacy contracts 202 of which were terminated yielding savings of about US$300 million for the Ghanaian taxpayer.
Addressing staff, the Minister underscored the shared responsibility to safeguard the integrity of the energy value chain and ensure a transparent and efficient sector. He issued a stern warning to any personnel engaged in malfeasance, including the illegal sale of meters or diversion of revenue, stressing that such actions would attract full accountability.
He emphasised that the government is not only addressing inherited challenges but is also implementing bold corrective measures to secure long-term stability in the power sector.
