VRA Must Take Charge of Power Generation – Energy Minister
During recent working visits, the Minister of Energy and Green Transition praised the Volta River Authority (VRA) for its foundational role in Ghana’s energy sector, from the Akosombo Dam to the ongoing integration of renewable energy sources.
The Minister described VRA as a key pillar of national energy security and a driver of economic progress, while emphasizing the urgent need for the Authority to play a more prominent role in power generation. He noted that Ghana’s current heavy reliance on Independent Power Producers (IPPs) is financially unsustainable.
He also highlighted the government’s success in renegotiating IPP contracts, which has already yielded savings of over $300 million.
The Minister concluded by reaffirming the vision of building a resilient energy sector.
